What exactly does a weight distributing kit do for towing a trailer?

I am towing a heavy trailer in the future. My hitch is rated at 5000/7500 lbs., the tongue is rated a 500/750. Other than leveling the trailer with the towing vehicle, what are the benefits? I know about sway control. My trailer is low profile. Any information is helpful. Thank you. What exactly does a weight distributing kit do for towing a trailer?
Any time you drop a heavy trailer on a ball hitch the more weight on the back the lighter the front end gets. If the front end is too light you will lose control of everything even at relatievely low speeds going down a hill. A weight distributing hitch actually transfers more weight to the front end so that the load is now balanced and you have steering and control and brakes especially down hill

Keep in mind that your hitch may have a rating but the vehicles stock suspension especially if the truck is 10 years or more older is no longer NEW. that said. A pair of heavy duty shocks can make a huge difference on control and also in how the trailer shoves the tow vehicle around.

I have used a company called monroe for 30 plus years. I buy the heavy duty load adjuster coil over springs around the shocks for the rear and a heavy duty set for the front. Usually about 200 dollars for the shocks. But the vehicle rides like a cadillac when towing , it takes a lot of the work and enspecially the jerking out of the equation when towing long distances.
