Do I have to pull the drive shaft on a 94 Ranger when towing it?

I have a 94 Ranger with a 3.0 V6 and 5 speed manual transmission. I'm planning on towing on a car dolly. Should I pull the driveshaft? Or can I tow the pickup backwards?Do I have to pull the drive shaft on a 94 Ranger when towing it?
Pulling the Drive Shaft (entirely) and putting it in the back of the truck, would be the best. If you're still in doubt, go to a AAA towing company and ask to see their "AAA Towing Manual". This reference book will state the "proper towing procedure" for your vehicle.
My hubby was told to diasble the shaft and then tow it. U kknow what happen? He lost majority of the drive shaft and had to replace it. Uhaul told him to front tow it and he did, and he lost it.

When we brough it back home and was talking to out nieghbor my neighbor just laughed. He said he could have rear towed it by locking the wheel and have it in neutral. (Marine mechanic)

If you have a complete car dolly that gets ALL tires off the ground no worries.

But if u loose that drive shaft any way u do it..I'm gonna tell u this..it's a ***** to find the right drive shaft. We have the same truck :/Do I have to pull the drive shaft on a 94 Ranger when towing it?
my mechanic husband says don't pull the truck backwards.you don't have to pull the drive shaft. put it in nuetral and pull it.

In general I think that cars and small trucks with manual trans (rear drive) can be towed with the rear tires on the ground, but need to put the trans in neutral. A car with an auto trans (rear drive) cannot be tow with the rear wheels on the ground.



You can tow a vehicle (rear drive w/ manual trans) with front wheels on the ground, but you need to lock and tie the steering wheel securely. Other wise the car being towed will go all over the place.
It takes ten minutes to pull it. Why risk it? You could have almost had it pulled by the time you asked and read the answers to the question.
