Towing a glider with ground based mechanism?

There are a ground based towing machines. How do you call this mechanism in English?Towing a glider with ground based mechanism?
It's called a winch, which describes any machine that does work by retracting a cable while winding it around a cylinder.
I do aero tows with my L-21 in Argentina -

But I have seen these ones used several locations -

There are a lot of different mechanisms that tow gliders into the air.

One such system is via nothing more than a bungee cord.
They use a winch. Often just a cable wrapped around an old car or truck rim. It's quite a rush. Where else do you use back pressure on the stick to INCREASE airspeed?Towing a glider with ground based mechanism?
Winch. Gliders even log it as such.
Exactly what John said, it's called a winch tow.
