Should I sell my van ?

I bought my van a year ago when my work was a lot closer to home. About a month ago I got a great opportunity and accepted this new job - though it is now 50 miles one way so 100 miles round trip. Needless to say, my van gets on aveage 23mpg (I do a lot of highway travel). My husband drives a cobalt and gets in the mid 30's mpg - I would save a boatload of money each year if I were to drive a car with better gas mileage. I owe 7700 on my van loan and know if I sold privately I could get very close to that. The dealer (where I am approved to get a car) could take it on trade in but only able to offer about 5500-6000. I'm not having trouble making the payments or the gas, but have done some fuel savings calculators and there is a BIG savings opportunity there - I could definitely put that savings to better use! What are your thoughts?Should I sell my van ?
um how far does ur husband drive???? cas if hes closer swap vehicles......new vehicle doesn't really save u money in the long run........they money u save on gas will b eaten up in higher taxes insurance and more payments.......i would honestly suggest looking for an older car with decent mileage and buy that if u do want out of ur van.......Should I sell my van ?
What kind of van is it?Should I sell my van ?
23 for the convenience of a van isn't all that bad. Since you are doing "what if" calculations, what if you lived closer to your job by either moving, or finding something where you didn't have to drive 100 miles a day to and from work? That would work also. How much did your insurance jump with that drive to work? Factor that in also.
Should I sell my van ?

NO.

Any savings that you would realize at the gas pump would be eliminated by the additional costs of buying a new car.

Even if you bought an older, cheaper used car your savings over a 2 year period will be minimal.

Any trade or sale of your current vehicle will more than likely result in a monetary lose. If you accepted the dealers offer you'd be losing between $1700 - $2200 ($7700 owed vs $5500/$6000 trade offer) and this is before you even take into consideration the added costs of higher monthly car payments and longer loan terms.

$2200 buys a lot of gas for that van.

The facts are that if you compare a car getting 23 MPG to a car that gets 33 MPG the savings over 15,000 miles driven is only $486. Using that figure and the possible $2200 cash lost out of your pocket it would take you over 4.5 years just to break even. FOUR and a HALF years before you begin to save your first dime. And that is assuming there is no difference in cost between the two vehicles.

Now there are a thousand ways to calculate these variables but the only way to accurately estimate total costs is to include cost of the car into your estimate. And you need to run these numbers out several years to get an idea of any actual savings over time.

Rental Property Deductions?

My husband and I bought a rental property in September. Since we are new at this I am not completely sure what all is tax deductible. Our taxes will be done at HR Block. I am just curious for my own questioning. We have not had much expense in those months. We did spend money for paint, varnish, painting supplies, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, etc. our first month. After that it was mostly paying bills and the building payment. Also, when I tracked my mileage I tracked miles per trip I then used a trip calculator to figure the price I would pay for gas at the cost of gas that day for the specific amount of miles including my gas mileage. I read somewhere recently that it could only be deducted if you use a standard deduction is that true? Also, when we bought the building we were told to call the IRS and get a tax ID number so we did. Now when I spoke to my usual accountant at HR Block hes saying we file this with our personal taxes. Did we not need the tax number? Do we really claim it with our personal? I am a little baffled by this. I was always under the assumption business was filed seperate. Any info would be greatly appreciated.Rental Property Deductions?
I would suggest you do you taxes yourself rather than have H%26amp;R block do them the first year. The number of deductions I found when doing my taxes the first year of my new business was amazing. Any work you do to maintain the property will be a business expense. If you upgrade the property you do a capitol improvement and that is treated differently. That is the other reason I suggest you do your own at least the first year. You want to be thoroughly familiar with the tax implications of each business decision you make. For the car you are given the choice of their mileage deduction or actual cost. If you use the vehicle for other than business it is much easier to keep a log book of miles driven than to compute each bill and divide it between business and personnel use. I found their mileage rate more than adequate for my vehicle expenses. With the fed I did my business with my personal taxes. For the state I had to do a separate return to collect and report sales taxes.

Married one day married all year.
You claim rental income on schedule E for rent. You will claim your mileage and all of your other expenses on this form. You can depreciate your appliances . All of this is reported on the schedule E and carried to your 1040. You can claim the expenses for fixing up the rentals. You can claim property taxes and mortgage interest. Insurance and legal fees are also deductible. These are just few.

http://www.hrblock.com/taxes/tax_calcula鈥?/a>Rental Property Deductions?
Rental income and expenses go on Schedule E. You don't really need an EIN unless you are renting out commercial property and don't want to hand out your SSN to your tenants. A property manager would also need it even if your property is residential. It's your call but as you have it now just hang on to it.

Any reasonable and necessary expenses are deductible. That would include mortgage interest, property taxes, insurance, repairs %26amp; maintenance, utilities, depreciation, rental commissions, property management fees, etc. Use of your personal vehicle is also included and in this case goes on Schedule E, not Schedule A. You can either deduct the actual costs apportioned for business use or use the standard mileage rate.

Major repairs or renovations must be depreciated along with the property improvements, i.e. the buldings, etc. Land is not depreciated so you'll need to break it out separately.

If you are going to Block to have your returns prepared, demand you be assigned to an experienced full-time staffer. They will need to make sure that your depreciation schedules are set up properly and that you take the depreciation deduction each year. Mistakes early on here can be very costly down the road when you dispose of the property so be SURE that you are dealing with an experienced individual. Alternatively you may wish to consult with a local CPA or EA to get your books up and running.

Your marital status on Dec 31st determines your filing status for the year. Your options are Married Filing Jointly and Married Filing Separately. MFJ usually results in the lowest over all tax liability.
Dear apartment owner: Yes you file this on your personal return. If you were a corporation, you would use different filing forms. Your rental info goes on Schedule E. Keep good records of all expenses and miles driven. The appliances you purchased will be listed on a depreciation schedule. Included on Schedule E will be such items as insurance, utilities, mortgage interest, property tax, repairs and any items you may have bought for the rental property.

This year you will file married filing jointly.

First you are married for your 2008 return. You can file jointly or separately from your husband.

Second, you do not need a tax ID number (EIN) for the rental unless it is owned by a corporation or a separate legal entity than you or your husband. If the property is owned by you two jointly or in other ways that you and your husband's name is on the title, then no EIN is needed.

Third, the revenue and expenses of the rental will be shown on the Schedule E of your personal return.

Fourth, the cost of appliances is treated as an investment depreciated over 5 years.

Fifth, you can deduct actual costs or standard mileage rate for use of your car. Unless you have kept all of your receipts for gas and maintenance of your car for the entire year so the business percentage of that total can be calculated, the standard mileage allowance should be taken. The standard mileage allowance is a reasonable amount per mile and usually ends up higher than the actual costs. And the record keeping is limited to your mileage log --- no receipts are necessary.

Lastly, the cost of fixing up the place to get it ready for rental are treated as investment and depreciated over 27.5 years.

about your rental unit;

Topic 414 - Rental Income and Expenses

Generally, cash or the fair market value of property you receive for the use of real estate or personal property is taxable to you as rental income. You can generally deduct expenses of renting property from your rental income. Income and expenses related to real estate rentals are usually reported on Form 1040, Schedule E (PDF). Income and expenses related to personal property rentals are reported on Form 1040 (PDF).

Most individuals operate on a cash basis, which means they count their rental income as income when it is actually or constructively received, and deduct their expenses as they are paid. If you are a cash basis taxpayer, you cannot deduct uncollected rents as an expense because you have not included those rents in income. If a tenant pays you to cancel a lease, this money is also rental income and is reported in the year you receive it. Do not include a security deposit in your income if you plan to return it to the tenant at the end of the lease. But if you keep part or all of the security deposit during any year because the tenant damaged the property or did not live up to the terms of the lease, this money is taxable income in the year this determination is made. If the security deposit is to be used as the tenant's final month's rent, you include the money as income when you receive it, rather than when you apply it to the last month's rent.

Some examples of expenses that may be deducted from your total rental income are depreciation, repairs, and operating expenses. You can recover some or all of your original expenses and improvements by using Form 4562 (PDF) (to report depreciation) beginning in the year your rental property is first placed in service, and beginning in any year you make an improvement or add furnishings. For information on depreciation, refer to Publication 946, How To Depreciate Property. Repair costs, such as materials, are usually deductible. For a discussion of the difference between repairs and improvements, refer to Publication 527, Residential Rental Property (Including Rental of Vacation Homes).

There are special rules relating to the rental of real property that you also use as your main home or your vacation home. For information on income from these rentals, or from renting at an amount less than the fair market value, refer to Topic 415, Renting Residential and Vacation Property (formerly Renting Vacation Property and Renting to Relatives).

If you do not use the rental property as a home and you are renting to make a profit, your deductible rental expenses can be more than your gross rental income, subject to certain limits. For information on these limitations, refer to Topic 425, Passive Activities 鈥?Losses and Credits.

For more information on rental income and expenses, including passive activity loss limits, refer to Publication 527.

congratulations on your new investment.

i am a certified tax preparer in california working for Block.

just about everything you mentioned above is deductible from the income generated by the property.

you can also depreciate the property, deduct mortgage and property expenses and much more as your Block adviser will explain. The details are filed on schedule E Profit/Loss from rental property.

Either the profit or loss is then leveraged to your 1040. If you actively participated in the activity (and it sounds like you have) you and your husband can deduct a loss of up to 25000 on your 1040. of course, if you were lucky enough to make money, that goes on your 1040 as taxable income. I assume this is a multi-family dwelling unit and not some huge high rise structure... be sure your Block person has specialty in schedule E. Oh, and you can also depreciate the new appliances and even if you were married on 12/31/08, you were married for all of 2008 and will file married filing joint.

  • Tire size question, bought a used car that was lowered in the front.?

94 acura integra ls, lowered i believe by an inch only in the front, the back is on stock springs or whatever.

    Factory tire size is P195/60 R14 85H

They put 185/65 r14s in the front

and the rear was factory tire size.

    is this setup okay?

would this affect my gas mileage/ performance? i went on a tire size calculator and it said my speedometer was about 1.7% too slow

Also my biggest concern is that my rear left tire got flat and i replaced it with the same size as the fronts ( 185/65 )

so now i have 3 tires (front left/right, back left) that are at 185/65

and my back right tire is at factory tire size (195/60)

will this setup affect my performance/gas mileage?

my biggest concern is safety as next week i will be traveling to los angeles

3 tires the same size 1 tire a different size.

Thank you!Tire size question, bought a used car that was lowered in the front.?
Will have minimal affect on performance/gas milage not enough to be concerned with if you compare those tires side by side you will find they are virtually the same height (circumference) but fronts are approx 3/4-1 inch wider giving you slightly better traction.

As far as having one odd size tire because circumference is almost identical on all of them it will have no affect on handling or drivablity of vehicle
and JBF i bought this car for really cheap i needed a beater car to save gas and it does save gas 28mpg

Tire size question, bought a used car that was lowered in the front.?
I know if they are different tread it is not good on your tires. It's best to have them all the same or it could possibly wear your tires down specially it it's different tread. It shouldn't be a safety hazard but I would call any automotive place and ask them.
put the original size tires that came from the factory back on it. that way your speedometer will be accurate.Tire size question, bought a used car that was lowered in the front.?
I would never buy a car that has been hacked up this bad. Just think of all the stuff you DON'T know about.

Can someone please help me with this word problem, i can do it on a calculator - but not on paper :(?

On 5 successive days a deliveryman listed his mileage as follows: 135, 162, 98, 117, 216. if his truck averages 14 miles for each gallon used, how many gallons of gas did he use during these 5 days?

Add them all up and divide by 14.

    135+162+98+117+216=728

    728/14=52

    Statistics question for calculator...?

a car has a mean gas mileage of 53 miles per gal. the gas mileage of the car is approx. normally distributed with a standard deviation of 3.2 miles per gal.

A-)What is the 90th percentile of the gas mileage?

B-) What is the gas mileages that makes up the middle 92%?

the teacher emphasized that i needed to learn this on the calculator. i use a ti-89, so anyone know how to do a problem like this?Statistics question for calculator...?
Are you allowed to use a z-score chart? If so, 90th is closest to 1.29 on the z-score chart. z = observed minus mean divided by sd. By solving for the observed... If we times the z-score by the sd and then add the mean, we should get the 90th percentile. This comes out to be 57.13 miles per gal.

Compares two cars. You have to tank size, what kind of gas mileage do you get in city,

what kind of gas mileage you get on hwy it asks this for both cars.

how much does a gallon of gas cost now

what percentage do you travel on hwy

then it should show compared vehicles. I know i need objects and classes.Computers Programming C++?
Consider a car object. You can use it to store all the info for each car. You can even use the object to calculate the gas mileage.

The rest is displaying answers. Which you can also do with the car object.

Can the gas mileage of my car be wrong?

I bought a used 2005 Hyundai Elantra about a month ago. It has a 14.5 gallon tank, an automatic transmission, and a 4 cylinder engine. The screen that calculates trip length says that since I filled up my tank a few days ago, I have gone about 105 miles and got 23 miles per gallon. However, I now only have a 1/2 tank of gas left. I just filled up on Sunday.

Calculating this myself, I figured that half the tank (7.25 gallons) times 23 miles per gallon should come to about 166.75 miles. Yet, in reality, divide the 105 miles I actually got by 7.25, and the number is really about 14-15.

For a 4 cylinder engine this is awful. Could the trip calculator be wrong in some way (either with the miles or the MPG?), or maybe are my calculations wrong? Or is there something wrong with the way the car is using gas, maybe? Can the gas mileage of my car be wrong?
Three possible reasons for the miscalculation.

    1) You reversed a considerable distance, throwing the things out of whack.

    2) You didn't count right.

    3) You're trip calculator is broken. Can the gas mileage of my car be wrong?
You cannot estimate the gas mileage. The fuel guage will vary. Fill the tank and record the miles. Later refill the tank and then do the math. I'm surprised you don't get better mileage than the 23. I get better mileage than that with a Chevy V-8.Can the gas mileage of my car be wrong?
dont go by the fuel gauge to check this. heres what you do: top off your tank. reset the tripometer to 0. drive for a few days. refill the tank all the way. check how many miles you drove, and record how many gallons it took to refill the tank. so say you went 150 miles on 15 gallons. so then 150/15 = 10mpg. (thats what im gettin in my truck :-(...). get it? hope this clears things up. if youre still gettin a low number, it could be your driving habits. if you have a lot of hills, youll get worse economy, and if youre a jackrabbit as soon as the light turns green and you got a lead foot, thatll also destroy your mpg rating.

    How can i estimate gas?

I have used an online gas calculator based on distance from city to city and year and make of car and gas prices over country.. but my sister just traveled from TN to MI and she estimated $800 but it cost $1,200.00. I am paying for a trip and the gas mileage calculator estimated $630 round trip from TN to NY? Any ideas? How can i estimate gas?
Well, the possibilities for why it was wrong are:

    1) Calculator was wrong about distance (unlikely)

    2) Calculator was wrong about MPG of the car (gotten from EPA but that's not reflective of most people's driving styles and actual MPG)

    3) Calculator was wrong (or outdated) as far as gas prices along the way

I'd guess it's #2. The best thing you can do is find out how many highway MPG you actually get in the car that you'll be taking, and use that in the calculation. How can i estimate gas?
You will get a better calculation of gas usage while you are on your trip. Make note of how much it cost to fill your tank. Reset your trip mileage to zero. When you stop to fuel up calculate amount of gas used versus the distance you traveled. Use that as your base for the remainder of your trip.

What about a motorcycle? Is it possible to have a bicycle towed by a towing company?
If the towing company get paid to do so, I'm sure they will tow anything, even a bicycle.
Most of the people I know who have worked for towing companies over the years are full of stories about all the odd and unusual things they have been asked to tow for people. Yes, they have towed bicycles, motorcycles, electric wheelchairs and go carts. They don't actually TOW it but they'll retrieve it. They put a mc diagonally on the forks and chain it down.

How do I find towing capacity for my truck ?

I need to know how much stuff my truck will tow by weight. How do I find towing capacity for my truck ?
Since you do not mention the model, year, 2 or 4 wheel drive, engine size and rear axel I can't answer it, but many times Edmonds will have some information.

Actually payload and towing capacity are completely different.

Trucks are actually evaluated for maximum towing capacity, but as I said, the questions that I asked needed answered first.
Check the owners manual, or the tag on the inside of the door. How do I find towing capacity for my truck ?
Look in your owners manual or call a dealership. That info is readily available in both location.
It is in your owners manual. If you don't have a manual contact a dealer who sells the truck his maintenance department will have that info. How do I find towing capacity for my truck ?
Check the owners manual. Note that for towing purposes there's a limit on weight of the trailer plus cargo as well as "tongue weight" (i.e. actually weight pushing down on trailer hitch).
There is really no rating for that in particular. Now there is a "capacity payload" towing rate for your truck. You kind of have to use some sensibility and keep your towing down to a minimum cause any heavy weighted object thats going to be towed will overwork the tranny and cause the fluid to heat up more quickly. Inotice alot of those dually truck guys get an extra tranny fluid cooler added on the truck just for towing purposes. Now if you have a dually truck or a deisel powered truck there probably is a towing rate where the driver door jam is. I hope this helps.
call your local dealer. they can tell you the exact amounts. good luck!
    just check the owner manual
there should be a tag on your drivers door that will read MAX GVW or MAX GVW RATING - this is the maximum gross vehicle weight rating - it includes the weight of the truck as well as the payload. it will be the rating to use based on the equipment your truck was built with, your owners manual will cover how to load your truck - ie how much of a load you can put on the rear bumper hitch , and how much payload you can put in the box , and how heavy of a trailer you can pull.

Thinking about getting a boat and wanted to know if my car could tow it? Boat is about 2500 lbs (unsure about weight of trailer). The answer is probably no, but I can't seem to find it anywhere searching on the internet so I thought I'd ask here. Thanks in advance! What is the towing capacity of a 2004 Toyota Camry Solara SLE V6?
I don't think pounds are relevant unless your going a long way...Its more an issue of your boats tounge weight. If you can pick it real easy you can probably pull it with a car..I have a 19ft Bayliner and it has a very heavy tounge weight and wouldn't be good behind a car...But we used to have a 18ft low profile boat that i could easily life the tounge on and would pull just fine behind a car...In other words if you boat is a beast, you need a truck...If its a light performance boat that sits light on the trailer a car can pull it. Distance plays a factor as well, but tounge weight of your boat is the true driving factor....If its to heavy it will mash your bumper to the ground...What is the towing capacity of a 2004 Toyota Camry Solara SLE V6?
look in your owners manual this will tell you how much weight the vehicle is rated at.

You can also go to u-haul and look it up on their website alot of times your owners manual will tell you a different amount.

You have to remember that a golf cart can pull a full sized truck but cant stop it.What is the towing capacity of a 2004 Toyota Camry Solara SLE V6?
You can tow about 1500 pounds with your Solara V6 SLE, so no I wouldn't recommend the boat, you will ruin your car.
I would actually call your local car mechanic to find out if your car could do it.

Can pulling / towing a truck that is in gear damage the truck when 1 wheel is dragging?

Somebody towed my truck 100 feet when it was in gear. They claim it was fine and would not hurt the truck. They were pulling it on dirt. All of the wheels were rotating except for one, which they said was locked. Truck is a 1985 Ford F150 4x4. Truck was not in 4 wheel drive at the time. Could this of caused any damage to my truck? Can pulling / towing a truck that is in gear damage the truck when 1 wheel is dragging?
If your vehicle has a manual trans, it can put stress on the clutch and drive train assembly if left in gear. If an automatic, you run the risk of breaking the shift prawl or internal damage to the transmission. In any event, not a good thing to do, If you have to move a disabled vehicle, be sure it is in neutral with the brake off.Can pulling / towing a truck that is in gear damage the truck when 1 wheel is dragging?
    It wasn't locked it was your posi reared that only lets 1 wheel turn in the forward direction with out the drive shaft turning%26gt; So it was rotating backwards%26gt; have to drive and see if it hurt it or not%26gt;

When towing a jeep cherokee behind another vehicle do the miles continue to count on the jeep?

The Jeep was in neutral and pulled on on four wheels. When towing a jeep cherokee behind another vehicle do the miles continue to count on the jeep?
If the transfer case is in neutral, then the odometer and speedometer do not register miles, because the transmission is not turning.

If the transfer case is in gear, and the transmission is in neutral, the miles will registerWhen towing a jeep cherokee behind another vehicle do the miles continue to count on the jeep?
No. But if this tow is a distance, I'd maybe do more then just put it in neutral. Does it have locking hubs ??

  • Can you sue a towing company if wrongfully towed?

So I got a sticker on my car saying that if i dont update the tabs then it will be towed at my expense.. I'm going to update the tabs right now within the 36hrs that it was stated it had to be done by. But im thinking about leaving the sticker on the car and hoping they tow it without rechecking the tabs.. then I'd sue them for wrongful towing.. (I'm very vengeful)

Would i have a valid case? Can you sue a towing company if wrongfully towed?
The towing company does not drive around all day looking for cars with this sticker. They come out after they are notified that a car has had the sticker for over the 36 hours, and still does not display the proper tabs (just getting the tabs is not enough - they must also be displayed).

Will you have a case? No, because you will not get towed if you have the tabs on your license plates within the 36 hours.
Nope, it would be towed AT YOUR EXPENSE. The towing company was hired to tow the car, and they don't check the tabs. They didn't put the notice on your car either. It would be like suing a trucking company because the store sold you a bad peach when you know the peach was sent in from out of State. Can you sue a towing company if wrongfully towed?
There's no such thing as wrongful towing. If you try to trick the towing company into towing your car then you'll have to pay the towing fee and the storage fee, that's it.
A 'towing' company only tows a vehicle AFTER they have been notified by a police officer...therefore, YOU can NOT sue a towing company - they are just doing their job and by the instructions of your local police department. Can you sue a towing company if wrongfully towed?
That would be the police and no.

  • Can you strip the transmission by towing an all wheel drive car with two wheels down?

My dad recently towed an all wheel drive vehicle with the hind wheels down. He said it felt like they hit a rumble strip and pulled over. Could the transmission have been stripped by doing this? Can you strip the transmission by towing an all wheel drive car with two wheels down?
It depends on if your dad had the 4 wheel drive in gear or in neutral? If he did have it in any gear then yes it could have. Also it depends if the vehicle is normally front or rear wheel drive without the 4x4 engage. If it is rear wheel drive then again yes. But if it is front wheel drive and you pulled it with the rear down then no.Can you strip the transmission by towing an all wheel drive car with two wheels down?
If the transmission was put into neutral before being towed, then no. It could be the drive shaft u-joints let go and caused the thumping. Can you strip the transmission by towing an all wheel drive car with two wheels down?
    Yes..

My car got towed and the towing company messed it up. How can I get them to pay for damages?

My apartment building had my car towed because I didnt have current tags on it. So I went to pick up my car today and drove it right across the street to the gas station. I noticed that my car now needs a front wheel alignment and the back tires are bent in. They look like a bow-legged person, you know \-------/ %26lt;-- like that. I went back over there and they had left because it was past closing time. If they refuse to pay to get it fixed, how do I go about sueing them or getting reimbursed from the company if I pay for it myself? Should I call the local news and put that company on blast? I really need advice because lord knows I dont have any extra money! My car got towed and the towing company messed it up. How can I get them to pay for damages?
Credible towing companies do a vehicle inventory before towing the car. When you picked up the car, it should have been on or included with the invoice. If the condition of the car doesnt match the inventory sheet, you stand a good chance of being able to take them to court. You would have had to sign off on the invoice agreeing with their inventory sheet. If you didnt inspect the car before signing off on the invoice, then you probably wont have any legal recourse.
Good Luck to you on that. I used to work for a towing company. I know how shady some of them are.

My car got towed and the towing company messed it up. How can I get them to pay for damages?
you will need to take them to small claims court if they wont admit liability.Request Judge Judy!

I would try to find the actual driver that did the tow before going to management and see if there were any unusual circumstances or if any big bumps or similar obstacles were encountered. But be clever and try not to reveal why you want to know. You could also ask your insurance agent for advice.
One thing for sure, are you sure they mess your car up or someone around the Apartment building mess it up and got it towed, also you need to talk to the Manager to see if he or she saw the damage before it got towed.

You cant really sue them without hard evidence they mess up your car. and dont go with the local news. tell them that you want your car fixed, if they refuse then beats meMy car got towed and the towing company messed it up. How can I get them to pay for damages?
Take it to a mechanic to confirm that the damage could have been/was caused by towing.

This would be a matter for small claims court. Here's advice from one state--you could google your state for further info:

Send the tickets to the DMV, it's their fault.
Unfortunately, the towing agency does not get involved in the politics behind the tow. If you want the car back, you will have to pay the fees and then attempt to recover the fees you paid by requesting reimbursment from the DMV for their mistake, if was in fact their mistake. But like I said, you will have to pay the fees in order to retrieve the vehicle from impound.

One such system is via nothing more than a bungee cord.
They use a winch. Often just a cable wrapped around an old car or truck rim. It's quite a rush. Where else do you use back pressure on the stick to INCREASE airspeed?Towing a glider with ground based mechanism?

  • Do you know someone who is in the towing business?

Or are you in it yourself? My husband %26amp; his father run a towing business of their own, I have been with my husband for 6 years %26amp; that's how we met. I was his dispatcher. My father was towing from the time I was born until the time I was about 13 or so. So I understand the business very well. Although it's not easy to live with someone who is always on call. What are some experiences you've had or someone you know have had?Do you know someone who is in the towing business?
Being on call all the time is hard. Owning the business is also hard. You never get a vacation and when you do you worry about what is going on with your company.

If you work for someone when you leave the office you leave all the "work" stuff at the door and do not worry about it until the next day. When you own the company you have it all the time 24/7 and if it is a family business that means your are with your family 24/7 at work and home. It makes it hard to seterate out work stuff from home stuff.

Sometimes stuff at work spills over to stuff at home and vise versa. It is hard to keep things going.

We have worked out a balance we take some time off and let an employee answer the calls and we make time to do things we want to do. Nothing gets into our time and we stick to that rule. It has helped us.Do you know someone who is in the towing business?
Sorry dont know anyone!....but I can imagine that being on call all the time must really suck!!!!!

I think its appx. 8000 lbs. The redesigned rear suspension doesn't allow as much capacity as the 09 but allows more controlable towing. Go to the nearest dealer and get the sales brochure on the truck as some options and different available rear gears can make a difference. It's all thereWhat is the maximum towing capacity on a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500?
More than likely, it is the same as it has always been for all 1/2 ton trucks. 5000lbs rolling weight with 500lbs of weight on the tongue of the trailer. If not towing, then it would be 1000lbs in the bed. What really dictates the towing ability on modern trucks is the suspension more than the frame or axles because they all use the same frame and similar drivetrains for all 1/2 ton to one ton trucks.
    I believe its 8710lbs.

Correct swim technique for towing a tired or unconcious person?

When a person is unconcious in the water, after you have turned them face up, I have heard 2 techniques for towing. 1 -where you put your arm under their arm and hold their chin in pistol grip or 2. where you put your arm over their upper arm and under the opposite arm.

Any advice from swim teachers or life savers?Correct swim technique for towing a tired or unconcious person?
We just covered this today in the lifeguard class I teach. After you have them on their back you can put your right arm over their right arm and the rescue tube (to ensure they do not fall off) ad then use a scissor kick and one arm pull to return to the side.

Or you can approach them from behind while their face is still down and with your rescue tube under your arms reach under their armpits and use your hips to pull them onto their back. In the water it kind of looks like they are laying on top of you. Then you use a whip kick to return to the side.Correct swim technique for towing a tired or unconcious person?
I think that grip number one is used when there is a suspected head or neck injury. But getting the victim onto his/her back will be done differently. As always you should have an aide when you go into the water, so using a rescue tube you will have to get the victim under their arms if they are face down and roll them to their back and have the tube under their shoulders/upper back and you are holding the victim and the tube with your upper body, hands under the tube and armpits of the victim. If you jump into save a random person out of the goodness of your heart with no life saving equipment make sure that you are safe and can swim while holding someone. Swimming on your back and doing the elementary backstroke kick will probably be your best bet. Or to position the victim on your hip and do a side stroke motion. Your arm will go above the body to the opposite armpit and you hold on as best you can. Correct swim technique for towing a tired or unconcious person?
i've always heard of number1. it makes it easier to kick underneith the person
number 2 is what we were taught at lifesaving...

Iv never heard of anyone doing number 1

  • What is the towing capability of a chevy 305?

I am looking at buying an 85 Blazer with a 305 motor, the 700r4 tranny and 4.11 gears with about a 4" lift. I know I will be able to tow my quad trailer, but what about something like a 20' travel trailer? I know a 350 could pull it but i don't know much about the 305's.What is the towing capability of a chevy 305?
Yeah it could tow a 20' travel trailer, but it will be pretty loaded. Poor choice for a tow vehicle; the combination of the short wheelbase and the lift/tires does not make a safe travel trailer puller. But yes it will pull it. The 4.11s will make life for the 700R4 a little easier.

    There isn't much difference between a 350 and a 305.

Invest in a sway control device so you don't turn 'turtle' on the highway with your TT.What is the towing capability of a chevy 305?
The 305 is a good strong engine, however the real question is.. how much weight is the 20' travel trailer? The chevy small block engines are well known for their durability, however the 700R4 transmission may have issues handling that trailer with the 4" lift, and the low 4.11 gears.

You need to find out if the transmission is the original, or if it has been rebuilt with heavy duty parts. If it's the original, you may want to consider getting the 700r4 transmission upgraded. There is a great company I recently saw on spiketv called monster transmission, they specialize in the 700r4 and could probably answer any other questions you have. Hope this helps, and good luck! What is the towing capability of a chevy 305?
It should pull up too 5,000 pounds pretty well. But having 4.11 gears is not good for the street its not even made for the street. It's made for off road or on the drag strip. I have a 97 chevy k1500 with a 350, all stock, except it used to have a 305 till it blew up, it would pull easy. But if I had the money I'd change my gearing to something like a 3.08.

Towing a vehicle with an automatic transmission?

I know that in order to tow a vehicle with an automatic transmission you have to have something installed or something done to it . I have an rv and would like to tow my car behind. What is it that I need to do for this to work?Towing a vehicle with an automatic transmission?
Well its not overly complicated. But if the vehicle your towing is front wheel drive, most cars/vans are, then you would need to trailer it with the front axle on the trailer. Or if you have a rear wheel drive vehicle, (truck/SUV), you need to trailer it with the rear axle off the ground. But to be safe my friend, I would just load the vehicle right up onto a trailer and get all four tires off the ground. If you tow your vehicle on the ground, its going to put more mileage on it, put stress on all your components. Its not worth it, but if you must, you also just need to put the transmission in Neutral.
I'd say the easiest way to tow anything behind an RV would be to get a car dolly, and skip all of the hassle of installing a towbar, driveline disconnect, etc. You will need to get some lights to plug into the trailer connector of the RV, and some sort of way to temporarily mount them to the car so there will be working brake lights on the car while it's being towed.Towing a vehicle with an automatic transmission?
Just tow it with the drive wheels off the ground and you'll be fine.
Just raise the drive wheels off the ground and tow it using a dolly under the drive wheels. And make sure to put it into neutral. That's about all you gotta do.Towing a vehicle with an automatic transmission?

a car has been parked in our apartment buildings car park space. does anybody know of towing companies to help with this problem?Anybody know of towing companies for private car park violations?
The best thing to do is just call the police department (non-emergency number).

Call them every day or twice a day if you have to.

Don't tell them it is blocking a parking space.

Tell them it is an ABANDONED car, and be prepared to give them a full description of the make/model and license plate number.

What is the towing capacity (bumper hitch) of the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD?

I just bought a 2001 Explorer Sport 4WD without an owners manual and am curious about the towing capacity via the bumper ball hitch. What is the towing capacity (bumper hitch) of the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD?
You can tow a trailer up to 3500 lbs using the bumper, but no more. Trailers over 3500 lbs will require a weight distributing hitch that is mounted to the frame, if you do install a FRAME mounted hitch it will tow 4940 lbs with an automatic transmission, and 2880 lbs with the manual transmission. Straight from the owner's manual. What is the towing capacity (bumper hitch) of the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD?

All the wise old horse people I know say a diesel engine is the best for hilly areas - more torque than a gas engine. Plus you get the benefit of better fuel economy and longer engine life (if you take care of it).

For size I would go at least 3/4 ton and 8 cylinder engine. I live in a flat area, drive 3/4 ton gas Ford F250 5.4L, and pull 3600# aluminum 2H slant gooseneck trailer, and it pulls and stops just fine.

I don't know of any non-American pickup trucks that have the muscle needed for tough towing like you describe. Definitely do NOT go too light on pickup size especially considering your terrain, or it would be a dangerous thing.

Oh and make sure you get your truck and trailer outfitted with electric brakes and controller. And a gooseneck trailer is much safer as well.
does your trailer tow in the bed of a truck or on the back bumper?.. if it tows in the bed you need a duley (four wheels in the back) if it just tows on the bumper you just need a regular truck. A ford 150 or 250 would be just fine. but because of your hills make it a 1 ton. What 4X4 make would be suitable for towing a horse trailer?
I have a dodge right now but my next truck for sure is the GMC HD 2500 with alis transmission. I have towed with this truck before with mares and foals in the back and going up steep hills is like pulling a feather and quicker then most cars. Thats what I would buy if I could afford it for sure
If you are pulling only a two horse trailer you can get away with using a 1/2 ton (f-150, 1500), but the problem you will likely have before the pick-up is old, is your transmission will go, especially if you are hauling in hilly/mountinous areas. Your best bet is going to be a 3/4 ton (f-250 or 2500) DIESEL. You will get 8-15 miles per gallon more with diesel than gas. With the 3/4 ton you will be able to go with a bigger horse trailer, or a camper plus your smaller horse trailer. It is going to haul more, and be able to take the hauling. What 4X4 make would be suitable for towing a horse trailer?
I am guessing wales has the same brand vehicles we do here in the states?? I am not sure.

But any F250 or 3/4 ton Chevy GMC etc would definately give you the power. I wouldn't go less than a 3/4 ton.

I personally have had F250's and love them, I haven't had Chevy's so can't give you much advice on them.

Diesels will give you better gas mileage but are more pricey than gas engines.
Any full size pick up with a V-8 and towing package. I drive a 2006 F-150 with a V-6, it's only good for towing a single horse trailer
whichever company you go with, I recommend nothing less than a 2500. Don't let the dealer tell you differently. There's some really good discussion on trucks ( mostly from U.S. perspective) at the MSAR list, I think you can access the archive w/out joining. http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinf鈥?/a>

  • What is stopping tow companies from towing legally parked cars for profit?

They see a car, know the owner has money, so they tow it and say it was "Illegally" parked. What is stopping tow companies from towing legally parked cars for profit?
    There are laws.

In the State of WA the Washington State Patrol regulates the towing industry. Only tow truck companies approved by WSP can engage in police contract tows which would include towing illegally parked cars. The WSP also regulates the fees that towing companies can charge.

If the illegally parked car is on private property such as an apartment complex, then any tow truck can tow the car regardless if they been approved by WSP. The legal responsibility would fall to whoever signed the authorization.

The WSP can inspect any towing company, regardless if they are on police contract or not, for violations. As a towing owner you must provide proof for every car that you towed that you had legal authorization to do so. The law requires log books to be kept by drivers and dispatchers and all information must match. Violations are very steep.

WSP is very thorough and catches violators regularly. Violators don't last long in this state as they are quickly shut down.

I would assume that every state governs towing in a similar fashion as mine. Do a search for your states towing laws. Should also show the rates that towing companies are allowed to charge as well.
These towing companies gain the right to tow cars after the city or county grants them that contract.

If the tow company is corrupt and tows cars parked legally, enough complaints will roll in that the politicians will cancel the contract for not abiding by the terms, and award the contract to a competitor. What is stopping tow companies from towing legally parked cars for profit?
there are laws against that in most major cities BECAUSE that was happening...

in my city, they must provide you with photographic evidence that shows you parked illegally, they must notify the police that they took the car etc..

also, there are cops around here that specifically target tow trucks.

if they get caught, they get in HUGE trouble.. pretty much lose their business, end up in jail and all sorts of crap....

but... yeah.... it does happen, and there are laws against it to help curb it.. otherwise it would be a free for all... you would ONLY see tow trucks on the road... no cars
The possibility of getting caught. There are cameras and witnesses, and the possiblity the owner will show up soon. If caught, they would not be able to work again. TOw truck owners are getting rich now, so they don't need to tow cars illegally. The repo business is keeping them busyWhat is stopping tow companies from towing legally parked cars for profit?
All towing companies are licensed by the state and in the city they operate in

If they did this they would be out of business with the first complaint and it would not be worth it to them to lose future revenue for a couple fast illegal dollars
A lawsuit. If they tow a car, and cannot prove that it was illegally parked, then they can be sued.
The fact that they'd be civilly liable and could be prosecuted criminally for auto theft I imagine.
this is called "auto-theft" %26amp; that's why we have a police department
It is called grand theft auto.

Can I pull a little more than the recommended towing capacity for my car?

the braked towing weight of my citroen xsara picasso 1.6 is 1300kg. With 110 kg already loaded in my car + myself (70kg), can I tow 1400kg or 1500kg total weight of the braked trailer? I am driving 3000 km, so it is a big journey! Can I pull a little more than the recommended towing capacity for my car?
Ignoring all else, the difference between 1300 %26amp; 1400kg is 100kg, 1/13th or [rounding down] 7.6923% of the recommended capacity.

...Think of a 1 in 100 chance of something going wrong as being [directly] due to a 1% excess (an extra 13kg).

You may have better handling with more weight in the car and a proper look at your brakes, newly fitted and tested - evaluate, is that extra 110kg another person and some luggage? Can there be a better distribution of load across the vehicle and trailer?

What is the bare minimum you can carry?

What is the comparative cost of renting a vehicle - a 4wd for towing, or a box van for the whole load e.g. - as a life preserving preventative measure, http://www.4x4specialist.co.uk/info.htm

You risk your own life as well as anyone else on the road if you have an accident, your could affect the balance of your car, damage the engine, and it is illegal. Can I pull a little more than the recommended towing capacity for my car?
    Hi,

You should put on a external transmission cooler. Get a towing kit for lights etc. I would`nt tow any thing bigger than a tent trailer.
Not safe at all. That trailer will push you all over the road and you wont be able to stop it.

Will Insurance\ credit card cover towing expence due to parking violation?

I had my car towed($400) for parking in a no parking zone(was in hurry didnt see sign). Will my car insurance towing coverage cover any of this(limit is $100 but better than nothing). I also put this on my credit card and my credit card does reimburse up to $50 for towing expence. Would either of these cover the towing? Will Insurance\ credit card cover towing expence due to parking violation?
The towing coverage on your insurance will not cover this. It covers tows due to mechanical break down. It does not cover getting towed b/c of a parking violation.
.Will Insurance\ credit card cover towing expence due to parking violation?
They only cover towing in event of a breakdown, not impound from a parking violation.
Towing is only covered by insurance if the definition of 'loss' is met, i.e; collision, fire, flood, mechanical breakdown, etc. Will Insurance\ credit card cover towing expence due to parking violation?
You need to start reading the fine print on all your policies.
Your credit card might, insurance - no way
    no and no

insurance or credit cards do not cover illegal acts

    so sorry
No. Towing coverage only reimburses you for towing expenses due to accident or mechanical breakdown, not having your car impounded because you were parked illegally.

Has anyone had experience towing a travel trailer with a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country?

I was hoping to find some gas mileage information from someone with real experience towing a trailer with a Town and Country mini van, preferably with the 3.8 L motor.Has anyone had experience towing a travel trailer with a 2003 Chrysler Town %26amp; Country?
First read your owners manual. If your minivan is not equipped with a trailer towing package, the towing limits are quite low.

If it is equipped with a trailer towing package, the limits are still not very high.

Chrysler minivans have plenty of mass to handle a trailer, the current and previous generations are way over 4000 lbs empty, with some models approaching 5000lbs

To answer your fuel economy question - it depends - a little pop-up that is you can not see from directly in front of the vehicle will have little if any effect on the highway fuel economy.

Any trailer that extends past the tow vehicle in width or height will have a significant adverse effect. Trailers that are within the restrictions in the owners manual may reduce the fuel economy by as much as 40%.Has anyone had experience towing a travel trailer with a 2003 Chrysler Town %26amp; Country?
Mini vans have very limited towing capacity.

I would not recommend towing anything larger than a pop-up camper or other small trailer under 1200 pounds gross weight, they simply do not have the power to do the job properly or the mass necessary to control a larger trailer.Has anyone had experience towing a travel trailer with a 2003 Chrysler Town %26amp; Country?

I have a 88 1/2 ton silverado with 350. Never had problems before but now when driving it stalls and has trouble accelerating, if i am towing it stalls and it sounds like the engine is choking and exhaust sounds funny almost like farting. Haven't had this problem before until now it was able to tow just fine before. It has 130,000 miles on it. Thanks for your help88 silverado 350 engine losing power when towing, stalls during accelleration?
replace the fuel filter and see if it changes. ifno check the out put from the pump, replace if necessary.

try air filters and check the exhaust. if its got a carb check the choke plate. or try funning a fuel or card cleaner through the fuel system
It could just need a tune up But my money is on the fuel filter an or fuel pump88 silverado 350 engine losing power when towing, stalls during accelleration?
    tune up time!

replace all filters (sounds like air, but do all at the same time), change oil in engine and trans, check diff oil. check to see if cat converter or mufflers are clogged, check to see if exhaust is squashed flat or blocked with crap
Definitely sounds like a fuel problem. you want to start by replacing the fuel filter. If it has been a while it is a necessary maintence task and will cause what you are describing.88 silverado 350 engine losing power when towing, stalls during accelleration?

  • What is the towing capacity of 2 door Jeep Wrangler vs. the 4 door Unlimited Wrangler?

I'm trying to see if either are capable of towing a 21-28 foot boat. I'm assuming the 2 door is not. What is the towing capacity of 2 door Jeep Wrangler vs. the 4 door Unlimited Wrangler?
When properly equipped the Wrangler is rated at 2,000 lbs (http://www.jeep.com/en/2009/wrangler/cap鈥?/a> and 3,500lbs (http://www.jeep.com/en/2009/wrangler_unl鈥?/a> Unlimited

I can almost grantee that a 21' to 28' boat will exceed that, I have a 19' bass boat and it weighs 1600lbs without the trailer add another 500lbs for the trailer bringing you to 2100lbs.

You will have the power to tow much more but you won't have the weight to control it or stop it. The Wrangler has the same 6 cylinder engine that can be found in the Grand Cherokee, the reason for the weight difference is the weight of the vehicle.

In short.....3,500 lbs your not going to SAFELY tow a 21 - 28' boatWhat is the towing capacity of 2 door Jeep Wrangler vs. the 4 door Unlimited Wrangler?
you can look at the owners manual at jeep.com for owners section. It depends on if you have the towing package with the 3.73 gear set and upgraded suspension. The 2 door with this package is only rated at 2,000. The four door is rated for 3,500 lbs. Pretty big difference. Those without the towing package are only rated for 1000 lbs. See how much your boat weighs.

Depending on what type of boat is is, you should be under 3k lbs. My last boat was a 21ft with and inboard 4.3 and it totalled 2800 lbs with trailer. What is the towing capacity of 2 door Jeep Wrangler vs. the 4 door Unlimited Wrangler?
You won't like towing with the 2 door,I would get a 4 door. The short wheelbase of the 2 door will cause trailer sway.

In Ireland does the car your towing need insurance?

I'm 15 so it'll be a while till I can actually drive my car on the road legally. My friend has a farm and we were thinking of bringing my car out there, all I want to know is if there is a car towing my car, does my car need insurance and what age does the person in the towed car have to be?In Ireland does the car your towing need insurance?
Disclaimer. These are admittedly US rules, but I assume all countries have similar rules.

No passengers are allowed in cars being towed.

If you mean pulling it down the road by means of a rope or chain, that isn't legal and isn't towing.

A legal tow truck can move your car even if you don't have insurance on it.

If you don't want to use a tow truck, unless all 4 wheels are off the ground, registration and insurance is required. That means you could use a trailer, but not a tow dolly.

Look for a local metal recycler. Most will still pay around $100 for a car body. Although you may only break even at that point after paying for a tow to drop it off. You are right, the 5.4 Triton V8 is standard.

    %26amp; there was 2 different axle ratios available (3.73 %26amp; 3.31)

See page 20 of the guide provided.

If so, HDTT package brings you up to 8600 lb. See page 14 for content.

hope this helps. How can i tell if a 2005 ford expedition has the upgraded towing package?
The upgraded towing package usually comes with the following:

-Brake distributor (usually some unit mounted in the car so you can work the brakes on a big trailer

-Oil cooling unit under the hood

-Radiator upgrade kit to keep the engine cooler when working hard.

-Also you can look at the hitch itself. Is if a simple small bolt on unit or does it look heavy duty.

  • Where can I find info on towing laws in Louisiana on Interstate highways?

To be specific, the car was towed off the side of I-10 in Lafayette, LA. The car was out of the way of traffic, insured, and posed no danger. It was only there a couple of days before being towed for no apparent reason. I'd like to contest the charges and get my car back. Could someone let me know where I can get more info on the laws concerning towing over the weekend until I can talk to the Public Service Commission.Where can I find info on towing laws in Louisiana on Interstate highways?
Any unoccupied vehicle on the right of way can be towed simply for being there. The right of way extends at least 100 feet beyond the edge of the pavement. If you leave the car to walk to the next exit for gas, it is legal for the car to be towed. Don't bother contesting the charges. The fact your car was towed off the Interstate is conclusive proof of what you were charged with. Pay your fines and get on with your life.

Should I fight the Towing company or my apartment complex?

So my car just got towed. I had registered the car as planned non-operation to the DMV and the tags are now a month expired. The apartment complex of course doesn't know that I have paperwork showing the car is inopp and can't be moved due to no tags. I wasn't parked in any illegal parking and was told that it was towed for the tags. If I show them my DMV paperwork, will the apt or towing company give me money back?Should I fight the Towing company or my apartment complex?
probably not, keep in mind, some nut job at the apartment complex called the tow truck company, because they had a contract with them. You can sure try to go past the dork who started all this head, by finding out who the management company is, and making a complaint that way, the problem is you have to live there, and the more stink you make, the harder it could be for you. It sucks that the car was even towed with out the management company or manger even asking you what is up, if they do not agree, to reimburse you, and you believe it was a illegal tow, you may be able to appeal to the city, or file a small claims action against the manager, and the tow company (If you do it separate, you have two chances of getting paid off, instead of one, if you can do it that way) best of luckShould I fight the Towing company or my apartment complex?
I really doubt it.........don't you?Should I fight the Towing company or my apartment complex?
There is probably a very common provision in your lease that says vehicles that are inoperable or have expired tags are subject to being towed at owners expense. The paperwork from the BMV simply proves their position that the car was inoperable and had expired tags, so it's of no help. If they made no attempt to contact you first, I would file a complaint with the ownership and see if they will offer something. Personally, I might not renew a lease over something like this.

  • What are the minimum requirments in an automobile for towing a pop-up (pull-behind) camper?

My fiance' and I will be getting a pop-up (pull-behind) camper after we marry, and we are looking for a good vehicle for pulling it on camping trips. We want a vehicle fully capeable of towing our future pop-up camper that will also - due to climbing gas prices - get the best fuel economy possible. What are the minimum requirments in an automobile for towing a pop-up (pull-behind) camper?
we tow ours with a murcury mountianeer and the gas milage goes from 20mpg to 17 when we tow it. thats not alot. most pop ups weigh 2-3 thousand pounds and many cars can pull this. my grandparents pulled a 2500 pound camper behind a ford taurus and a crown vic all over the country so it can be done. is what you need to think of is the kind of frame on the car. you can put a high rated hitch on a car but the frame may not be able to handle it. also what size is the popup. there are ones small enough to tow behind a motorcycle and ones 20 foot long that weigh 4 thousand pounds. you should go to the dealership and ask the dealer what car would pull the model camper you want the best. also if your towing it with a car or sation wagon you will most likely need a sway bar for on the highway.

happy campingWhat are the minimum requirments in an automobile for towing a pop-up (pull-behind) camper?
A vehicle with the capacity for towing should have the info you need with owner's manual, or on line with the manufacturer or dealership.

Remember, it is not just the gross weight of the trailer that needs to be taken into account, but the "tongue" weight as well. Pop-up trailers don't always need a gas guzzling SUV to pull around safely. However, if available, I'd get one with electric brakes, especially if your tow vehicle is a smaller model.

Good luck and happy camping! What are the minimum requirments in an automobile for towing a pop-up (pull-behind) camper?
look in the owner's manual to see what the specifics is for that particular vehicle. i would personally recommend a chevy trailblazer or gmc envoy. just remember when you look at the limits of the vehicle, you will need to consider the cargo you will carrying inside of the vehicle, not just the camper alone.

It happens. The towing %26amp; storage fees would be so expensive you couldn't have gotten the car back anyway.

  • Can I get a towing refund by fighting my parking ticket in Toronto?

I got my car towed away, AND I got a parking ticket for it in Toronto last week.

I really dont think the ticket (and subsequent towing) was fair since I was handed the ticket at 10:30 pm, while parking is free after 9pm as per the meter. (I took pics with my cellphone to proove it).

The ticket is only for $30, but i had to pay $155 for towing.

If I can have my ticket dismissed and convince the judge that the officer was wrong - will I get a refund for my towing? Can I get a towing refund by fighting my parking ticket in Toronto?
It shouldn't matter when the ticket was handed to you. If the cop testifies that he found your car there even one minute before 9PM, then you have a problem. But if you did park there after 9, then the cop really screwed up and I should think you'd be entitled to compensation for the towing charge. Just hope that the towing company can provide you with some sort of a log or other kind of record of exactly when they towed your car, or that you can find a witness who saw when your car was towed, in case the cop lies about the time in court. Good luck with that.

Can a towing company refused to give you any information or paper work on your car?

My car was park legally on the street and it was towed for abandonment. The car is still impounded as we speak but while in court for the abandonment issue I find out from the judge that the car was actually towed for been abandonment on a private property. I need the towing company paper work to show the judge where the car was parked when it was towed but they keep giving me the run around. Can a towing company refused to give you any information or paper work on your car?
I guess you could try calling all the tow truck companies in that general area and see if they towed your car. They should have a record of all the cars there. I hope you find it. That is awful.

Actually I DID know that! See, the way it works is if you park in a "Tow Away Zone", then your car will be towed. And the way this site works is, you ask a question, then people will answer it. No more nonsense please.

Pay the fees for towing and storage, and you should get a receipt showing where it was towed from and what the break down of charges is. Then you can show the judge whatever you'd like to show him. They can tell you where it was towed from, but they aren't going to give you the paper work until you pay them.

  • Does a 2004 Ford Expedition w/ towing package have a limited slip differential?

I have a 2004 Expedition, and I was wondering whether or not it has a limited slip differential. It has the HD towing package, but I'm not sure about the diff. Any help will be greatly appreciated.Does a 2004 Ford Expedition w/ towing package have a limited slip differential?
Most likely it does. There are a couple ways to find this out if you are not the original owner and have the build sheet. 1. crawl under the rear of the vehicle and look for the axle tag attached to a bolt on the housing. If, for example, it lists 3.54 as the ratio, it is non-locking; if it lists 3L54, then it is a locking axle. 2. go to Motorcraft.com and put your VIN in to get a list of what the vehicle is equipped with. 3. Give me the VIN and I can run it for you.Does a 2004 Ford Expedition w/ towing package have a limited slip differential?
Yes or no is the answer. The limited slip rear axle was an option on that truck. You can have the trailer tow package with or without it.

Take is to a dealer and they will be able to look and tell you.Does a 2004 Ford Expedition w/ towing package have a limited slip differential?

What will happen if i don't pay a collection agency $1,200. for towing and storage of my car sold at auction?

I live in California. The car was sold and the buyer abandoned the car. It was towed by the city and sold at an auction. Now the towing company turned over the collection to a collection agency. What will happen if i don't pay a collection agency $1,200. for towing and storage of my car sold at auction?
Did you send in the release of liability? If your answer is no, then you are at fault here. Do you have any proof that you sold it? Same thing dude.

Did you contact the tow company and tell them it was not your car anymore? Same thing. You have to be responsible

If you do not pay, you will be turned in to a credit reporting agency. It will show on your credit report. If I were you, I would pay an attorney to write them a letter stating that you were not the owner at the time and therefore were not responsible. And, they can still take you to small claims court if they want. So... if I were you, I would get the proof ready. And if you do have proof, send a copy to the collection agency.

In California, you are required by law to send in the release of liability form. It is attached to your pink slip. YOU are required to send it in. Not the buyer.
If the title was never changed over then you are still responsible and if it's not paid will go on you credit report and lower your rating. Sometimes you have to take these people by the hand to motor vehicles. Unless you have a receipt showing you sold it and who bought it , then you can fight it.What will happen if i don't pay a collection agency $1,200. for towing and storage of my car sold at auction?
your credit will be tarnished. if your credit is already in the toilet i wouldn't even bother paying. if it is salvagable you should make it worth your time to pay. ca passed a law that you must pay back all debts so you may be forced to pay anyway.
It sounds like the person who bought the car owes for the towing and storage fees. Do you have proof that this person bought the car? What will happen if i don't pay a collection agency $1,200. for towing and storage of my car sold at auction?
