I live in California. The car was sold and the buyer abandoned the car. It was towed by the city and sold at an auction. Now the towing company turned over the collection to a collection agency.What will happen if i don't pay a collection agency $1,200. for towing and storage of my car sold at auction?
Did you send in the release of liability? If your answer is no, then you are at fault here. Do you have any proof that you sold it? Same thing dude.

Did you contact the tow company and tell them it was not your car anymore? Same thing. You have to be responsible



If you do not pay, you will be turned in to a credit reporting agency. It will show on your credit report. If I were you, I would pay an attorney to write them a letter stating that you were not the owner at the time and therefore were not responsible. And, they can still take you to small claims court if they want. So... if I were you, I would get the proof ready. And if you do have proof, send a copy to the collection agency.



In California, you are required by law to send in the release of liability form. It is attached to your pink slip. YOU are required to send it in. Not the buyer.
If the title was never changed over then you are still responsible and if it's not paid will go on you credit report and lower your rating. Sometimes you have to take these people by the hand to motor vehicles. your credit will be tarnished. if your credit is already in the toilet i wouldn't even bother paying. if it is salvagable you should make it worth your time to pay. ca passed a law that you must pay back all debts so you may be forced to pay anyway.
