What 4X4 make would be suitable for towing a horse trailer?

I am looking for a 4X4 to tow a double horse trailer with two 15.2 hh horses. The vechicle needs to be powerful enough to tow up steep hills (live in wales!) and i know certain makes are awful for towing. Any ideas or advice apreciatedWhat 4X4 make would be suitable for towing a horse trailer?
All the wise old horse people I know say a diesel engine is the best for hilly areas - more torque than a gas engine. Plus you get the benefit of better fuel economy and longer engine life (if you take care of it).



For size I would go at least 3/4 ton and 8 cylinder engine. I live in a flat area, drive 3/4 ton gas Ford F250 5.4L, and pull 3600# aluminum 2H slant gooseneck trailer, and it pulls and stops just fine.



I don't know of any non-American pickup trucks that have the muscle needed for tough towing like you describe. Definitely do NOT go too light on pickup size especially considering your terrain, or it would be a dangerous thing.



Oh and make sure you get your truck and trailer outfitted with electric brakes and controller. And a gooseneck trailer is much safer as well.
does your trailer tow in the bed of a truck or on the back bumper?.. if it tows in the bed you need a duley (four wheels in the back) if it just tows on the bumper you just need a regular truck. A ford 150 or 250 would be just fine. but because of your hills make it a 1 ton.What 4X4 make would be suitable for towing a horse trailer?
I have a dodge right now but my next truck for sure is the GMC HD 2500 with alis transmission. I have towed with this truck before with mares and foals in the back and going up steep hills is like pulling a feather and quicker then most cars. Thats what I would buy if I could afford it for sure
If you are pulling only a two horse trailer you can get away with using a 1/2 ton (f-150, 1500), but the problem you will likely have before the pick-up is old, is your transmission will go, especially if you are hauling in hilly/mountinous areas. Your best bet is going to be a 3/4 ton (f-250 or 2500) DIESEL. You will get 8-15 miles per gallon more with diesel than gas. With the 3/4 ton you will be able to go with a bigger horse trailer, or a camper plus your smaller horse trailer. It is going to haul more, and be able to take the hauling.What 4X4 make would be suitable for towing a horse trailer?
I am guessing wales has the same brand vehicles we do here in the states?? I am not sure.



But any F250 or 3/4 ton Chevy GMC etc would definately give you the power. I wouldn't go less than a 3/4 ton.



I personally have had F250's and love them, I haven't had Chevy's so can't give you much advice on them.



Diesels will give you better gas mileage but are more pricey than gas engines.
Any full size pick up with a V-8 and towing package. I drive a 2006 F-150 with a V-6, it's only good for towing a single horse trailer
whichever company you go with, I recommend nothing less than a 2500. Don't let the dealer tell you differently.
