Anybody have any idea what the MPG of a loaded 14 foot Uhaul truck towing a car behind it is?

I'm moving and I want to figure out how much gas I should expect to use. We're making a 1,400 mile trip and if its more cost effective to just drive the car then we'll just do that, otherwise we want to tow it.

Loaded down 14 foot Uhaul truck towing a dolly with a jeep cherokee on it, if that makes any difference.Anybody have any idea what the MPG of a loaded 14 foot Uhaul truck towing a car behind it is?
First of all, unless you are going to pull the drive shaft out of the Jeep, you are setting yourself up for problems. Even if you put the transfer case into neutral, you still are risking serious damage to the drive line. You would be much better off with a car trailer than a tow dolly.

A tow dolly is good for a front wheel drive vehicle, because the drive wheels are them off the ground. It is not recommended for a 4 wheel drive. If you want to tow the Jeep, the best solution is a trailer, which will have brakes, and will have all the Jeep's wheels off the ground.

As to gas mileage, a lot will depend on the terrain that you are crossing. Traveling through mountains will take more gas than traveling through a flat area such as many parts of the midwest. With a loaded truck and towing a vehicle, you will most likely end up averaging 8-12 miles per gallon. This will depend on the condition of the truck. If you get 10 MPG that would be 140 gallons of fuel that you will burn.

you will get about 14-16mpg(+or- 2 miles) mabe better depends were ur traveling and the only way it would be cheapper is if the jeep had a small 4 or 6 cylinder engine, then its worth driving it, but might as well tow it ur going the same way, and u can keep it as an imergency car with gas.Anybody have any idea what the MPG of a loaded 14 foot Uhaul truck towing a car behind it is?
Figure on 5 MPG to give yourself a budget cushion. If you are driving a lot of hills/mountains, it may actually be that bad or worse.
less than 8 mpg. I drove a 58 passenger motor coach and it was 8 mpg. about the same gvw
