I just bought a 2001 Explorer Sport 4WD without an owners manual and am curious about the towing capacity via the bumper ball hitch.What is the towing capacity (bumper hitch) of the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD?
You can tow a trailer up to 3500 lbs using the bumper, but no more. Trailers over 3500 lbs will require a weight distributing hitch that is mounted to the frame, if you do install a FRAME mounted hitch it will tow 4940 lbs with an automatic transmission, and 2880 lbs with the manual transmission. Straight from the owner's manual.What is the towing capacity (bumper hitch) of the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD?
If I'm not mistaken, look on the bumper by where the ball goes, might be stamped there. I know the F-150's run 500 tongue/5000 pull.
