Does anyone know the regulations required in Illinois for owning a towing service?

My husband wants to start his own towing business and is having no luck finding out the rules and regulations. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.Does anyone know the regulations required in Illinois for owning a towing service?
You need to hire an attorney who is familiar with towing business needs and liability.

Towing businesses may qualify under many different types of regulations even though none specifically discuss the towing business - as an agent of the state when it removes vehicles from the road or private property, etc. For example, a towing company may be regulated as a collection agency if it involves repossession under Illinois Collection Agency Act and, thus, would require a professional collection agency license. Only an attorney familiar with the different areas of law that towing companies qualify under would be able to provide an accurate answer on this issue.

This is not an area where looking up the answer quickly will save any time or money. Towing is highly regulated in most states because it can involve confiscation of private property. Contact your local chamber of commmerce and your local bar association to find a business attorney who is familiar with towing companies. (you might actually want to call other towing companies to see if they can recommend an attorney who they have dealt with and like).

The money spent on a consultation will outweigh the costs of fines from failure to comply with state regulation or losses from lawsuits from angry auto owners down the road. Find an attorney that is already familiar with the area of business law for towing companies and it will keep the amount of time he bills you down since he won't have to spend much time to research this information.
