After answering a question about Razor's Edge's blue pits, I searched online for their website %26amp; I was appalled to find so MANY links of "Bully" breeders!
These horrible breeders purposely mix APBTs with some other breed like Cane Corsos, maybe Bulldogs, Mastiffs or maybe something else so that they will have massive heads, massive bodies, short legs %26amp; basically, just to make them look like unhealthy fat Hippos. I think they think they look really fierce %26amp; cool with those kind of looks. But with all that weight they're carrying everyday, they're bound to get some joint %26amp; back problems later in life. I watched one video of a bully chasing after a basketball %26amp; the poor dog was so out of breath after just running 50 meters. It was already lying on the ground, breathing so heavily. I am absolutely sure, these dogs have LOTS of health problems.
So as I was looking for Razor's Edge web, I found another one called MAFIA Pits. The thing I have noticed about those who own, show %26amp; breed these dogs is that, they are very "gangster-ish". I mean, calling a kennel Mafia already says a lot about them. If you look at ALL of the bully websites, they look very gangster-ish as well. One of them had guns as a background in their website.
I am also appalled that there's an American Bully Kennel Club or ABKC for short right now. This club is actually promoting these kind of irresponsible people to breed more unhealthy mutts. I wonder why they were allowed to start up such club? Can't anybody do something about it %26amp; close it down?
And tell me what you think about these "Bully" breeders.
Thanks.
I am going to put a legit question here just in case Yahoo decides to delete this question for whatever reason:
LEGIT: When was the last time your dog went to the Vet %26amp; why?The growing number of "Bully" Hippo Dog Breeders?
these BLUE WHALES are the reason that people think APBT's are 90 lb killers.... few people remember STUMPY, because of all the incidents of hood-rats sicking their giant blue things on unsuspecting people- or improperly socializing them, and then improperly confining them!
it's ******* like that who are getting BSL enacted- and making a mockery of my breed.... my breed can run for MILES- they are tenacious- never lazy- never low to the ground!! never bred for huge head!! bred for drive and grip!! those bully things have no drive- no grip, and certainly no ability to do ANYTHING!
UKC specifically excludes those hideous monstrosities in the APBT breed standard.
correction- NOT cane corso. mostly bulldog and DDB are mixed in.
2 days ago for my female aussie to be spayed.
And on that note...yes. I did some looking after reading your post - and was equally apalled - since ABPT's in the hands of a responsible owner are not people agressive, or mean. Maybe animal agressive, but not ppl. And the mafia/gangster/gun stuff just perpetuates the myth that they are guard dogs. /sigh
I like them. I hated having to EU them when I worked for our shelter - I don't know how you would get ABKC shut down - heck, there are now hybrid designer dog registries - as bad, if not worse.
Anyway -
regards,
Pam
EDIT: The 2 designer dog "registries" are American Canine Hybrid Club - ACHC http://www.achclub.com/index.php and DDKC - Designer Dog Kennel Club http://www.ddkc.org/The growing number of "Bully" Hippo Dog Breeders?
I totally agree with you. But AKC is losing money and is starting to register "things" that don't resemble APBT's in the least. Then there is the other clubs, like UKC amongst others that actually allow these dogs to be shown. It's all about money!
Regarding the MAFIA type names: That's what people want, and the breeder's promote it. They are buying a 4 legged "gun" they way these buyer see it.
No, there's nothing much can be done, and it's too bad it's the way it is.
As for your LEGIT question: lol Yes, I took my dog to the vet three weeks ago, the guy in my avatar, he was attacked by one of those types of breeds you speak of. It came out of nowhere, unleashed and ready to kill my guy. It's been three weeks now and my little fellow is only just starting to come off antibiotics and pain killers.
I'm not happy about that, but happy my little fellow lived, he's 10 years old.
Good question!!
ADDED: Those dogs have a terrible time breathing, birthing and generally live short lives due to the hip, joints and heart problems amoungst other afflictions. It's darn-right cruel to breed like that.
I can't believe people could do such stupidly horrible things to dogs just for looks . But I can't see why people would want to buy them . They are no better than BYB . After checking the MAFIA website I feel really sorry for these dogs . This is why these dogs are getting a bad reputation as being nasty .
And to regards to your question
Oscar : 4/5/09 for his annual shots
Tia : 9/7/09 for her annual shotsThe growing number of "Bully" Hippo Dog Breeders?
Not new to me, but I was equally disgusted when I first discovered the existence of these visibly unhealthy mutants they call dogs.
I imagine that the "gangster" persona these breeders hold are to symbolize the aggression or dangerous nature or supposed guarding instincts in the breed for stereotype. I am unsure if the American Bully can actually take down intruders, or if the breed's marine-mammal-like appearance is what is supposed to deter away the intruders??? - "Hey, let's rob this house." .. "No, they have a land-dwelling manatee in their backyard!"
Of course it's not healthy. What is the breed's purpose? Looks and appearance; just like the English Bulldog, a breed that is also full of health issues, short life expectancy, and mating/birthing difficulties.
There is the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC) that recognizes "hybrids" - http://www.achclub.com/modules.php?name=鈥?/a>
Anyways - for your legitimate question;
Princess - March 09 for annual and rabies shot
Tabitha - March 09 for annual exam and rabies shot
Melody - June 09 for re-check on recovery from luxating patella surgery
AnnaBelle - August, last Friday, for re-check on injured ear, that has now healed almost completely
Sasha - heck, who knows, probably a few months ago for blood work to check her phenobarbital levels; she's due again in September.. this dog has health issues up the bum, surprizes around every corner that require veterinary care, so it's hard to keep track when her last vet visit was
I agree. It's shocking that people are breeding for this look. I'm all for breeding a healthy dog, and these, whilst muscular, are way too overdone and it's no good at all. It actually reminds me of human bodybuilders. Some of them are okay (the humans), but when they get over the top and really desperate to look a certain way, they end up so unhealthy (like the dogs).
I think the breeders themselves are just breeding for a certain look to fulfil some stupid trend/look people want, and it's just horrible.
This is as bad as "designer" breeding. Breeding only for profit because idiots out there are ready to buy these dogs, without knowing the whole truth about them.
LEGIT: Lui went to the vet last just over a month ago. It was for vaccinations, yearly check-up etc. He's doing great, the vet was very pleased.
LEGIT: Jessie went in June to get her anal glands expressed. Goes back in Sept for a booster shot on something that I can't recall off the top of my head.
It's upsetting, yes. Looking at that Razor's Edge site, the dogs are disgusting and they make all sorts of claims like "top male in the country''. How do they say that when these dogs couldn't possibly be shown and win? I'm not sure they could even be shown as they are clearly crosses of some sort. Agreed, a dog like this will have many health issues. Orthopedic, respiratory, etc. And they are in no way representative of the highly athletic dog that a Pit or Staffie is supposed to be! Those dogs could pass out running for dinner, for heaven's sake!
Doesn't everyone who breeds things outside of the AKC standard start their own club to appear more legitimate?
That Mafia site is disgusting. And look at how proudly they advertise that one of their dams was born on December 18, 2008! WTH????
@zigzag, this is not an AKC issue. AKC is a registry (that these breeders avoid, actually). Not a policing organization. There are lots of AKC registered dogs of ALL breeds that look nothing like their breed' standards.
The whole thing is ridiculous. Just a bunch of people with insecurities trying to make up for them through their dogs.
Legit- Sunday for a c-section. 10 healthy DDB pups :-)
