There's no breed named "pit"
The correct name is " The American PitBull Terrier"
Unless it's a mutt

Bully Breeds
American PitBull Terrier
Boxer

American Bull dog

The definition can vary widely...including breeds like the Boxer, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier...and then down to the French Bulldog, Bulldog, and Boston Terrier. They descend from the same ancestor...some were then bred for "bull baiting" and then fighting...then were bred down to family companions.

The place you are adopting probably just means that you must have a secure fence. These dogs are stubborn, determined, and strong...the average Boxer could easily jump a fence...the average American Staffordshire Terrier could bust through a weak fence.

ADD:
a "pit" or "pitbull" isn't even a dog breed
there is an American Pit Bull Terrier...then other backyard breeder junk that stem from this poorly understood breed
the "pitbull" is a termed used by ignorant people who don't research and by the mediaWhat is a bully breed dog?
Bully breeds can be: American Pit Bull Terriers "Pit Bulls," American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or any mix thereof. I personally consider the American Bulldog a Bully breed.
