hello this is a question for molloser type dog owners and i was just wondering if when you are out people cross the street when they see your dog or tell you to keep your dog away from there dog or kids.this happens to me all the time dose it happen to you a lot.Has this ever happened to you(bully type dog owners only)?
Ive had several dogs and it really frustrates me that when i had my Rotti everyone would avoid me with their dogs and say "why isnt he muzzled ect ect" when hes THE most gentle dog you have ever met.
And yet people think its ok for their kids or dogs to approach my West Highland White Terrier because shes small and "looks friendly".
She is the one who doesn't like kids and dogs jumping all over her. I feel like i should have a great big sign saying "Stay Away"
Very VERY frustrating
Yes I usually mock them and bring my dog wherever i want, which in most cases she always behave better than their dog. I just laugh at them when they're dog goes crazy and mine just sit when told to.Has this ever happened to you(bully type dog owners only)?
Constantly. What is the matter?my boy hasn't done anything wrong. He even goes to our local nursing home as a friend dog,the residents love him!A lot of people just don't have a clue or must have a fear of good looking dogs.
Believe me it happens to everybody owning a rottweiler, doberman, german shepherd, doguo de bordeaux, the pit bull family and just big dogs in general that have been targeted. People with toy dogs or very small dogs are specially vary since the dogs are so fragile. Many people seem to find the dogs scary, probably due to their look. It's stupid but unfortunately true.Has this ever happened to you(bully type dog owners only)?
Rott owner, suprisingly not. Thats why I got a bully breed, for the sake of if I wanted to walk him at 3 in the morning, I wouldnt be messed with..He seems to attract people other than scare them. fine with me, he's a good boy anyways.
I have a Rottweiler and I can't say people say anything to me, but they do sometimes leave a walking path that we are on as we pass, not wanting to get close. And I get the "looks" from lots of parents when we are at parks. It just shows their ignorance.
My dog is just a mutt but my neighbour is always saying 'oh I feel sorry for you having an aggressive looking dog'!!! huh he's a mutt, and people are always pulling their children away and telling me to put him in a lead and people pick up their dogs as well sometimes, he's clearly not aggressive otherwise I wouldn't have him off a lead in a public park! So I just ignore them and carry on walking
Yeah with my APBT that happens pretty often i just laugh. out loud
Hi - I have Alapaha Bulldogs and I get two kinds of reactions - the one you describe or the complete opposite - people want to know what they are and can they pet them. People tend to be intimidated by big dogs period but with all the hype and misinformation the media gives about "pitt bulls" it seems that much worse. My Alapahas would never hurt anyone unprovoked ( any dog will if provoked , lets face it) but people assume the worst.
Just respect the other peoples space, especially if kids or other dogs are involved and let your dogs be good ambassadors to their breed.
We own 2 Rottweilers. When we walk them together, people will aviod walking on the same side as us and we actually move if people won't move because we don't know how the dogs would react as a pair, around other people and their dogs.
When they're separate, the older and much bigger Rotty, Demon, gets a lot of people changing sides of the street, looking at him and sticking their noses up, alot of kids and teenagers will walk out of their way around us, people with their dogs will almost stop in a panic when they see us especially if they have like a Jack Russell. I admit i would do the same thing, Demon is a pretty big dog! We often get the remarks 'My god he almost looks like a small horse!" well he would compared to your Chihuahua! Or the "Wow, he looks like a bear from a distance".. which he kinda does when his heads down cause his fur pushes up around his face! Than we sometimes get the odd person or couple (mainly younger couples) who come up to us wanting to know about him, his breeder, where we got him, how much etc. But if they attempted to touch him we pull them up immediately because he becomes pretty protective when his outside of his own backyard so we really don't know if he'd allow them to pat him or he would give off a warning growl.
Than when we walk the younger dog Titan, he is the more friendlier looking happy go lucky type of dog, loves pats and attention, people tend to not worry about him as much as Demon. But if people still stay on our side of the road with their dogs, than we will cross over because Titan pretty much hates anydog that he can see eye to eye with or any dog that will snap or bark at him he'll want to take it on, so we act responsibly and remove him from the situation.
But i definately understand how you and other people feel when people make sly remarks toward you about how you should have a muzzle or a 'saddle' on that 'thing'.
For the most part, I've had positive reactions to my Pit Bull... Kids and adults alike comment on how beautiful she is and want to pet her. I take her to a dog park near my apartment once a week and I've only had one issue with another dog owner, and that was from a crazy old man and another dog that wasn't even his... I have, though, had a couple of teenagers that live nearby tease and taunt her, apparently finding it funny to provoke a Pit Bull and trying to get her to react badly (Those people live in my apartment complex and were given a warning by the office that they'll be evicted if they continue to cause problems... And they have stopped.)
I've been given a few looks by older people and been avoided on a couple of occasions because of her... But for the most part, like I said, people have been great toward her.
