In order for Vista premium to run smoothly, you'll will need atleast 1 gb of ram and above. I say you have enough for it to go on a good speed.

heres the requirements

.

* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor鹿).

* 1 GB of system memory.

* Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)虏, Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.

* 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.

* DVD-ROM Drive鲁.

* Audio output capability.

* Internet access capability.
I have a new Gateway laptop with Vista and a desktop with XP.

You can go to the MS website and use the tools that you find there to see if your computer is Vista compatible. Be aware that there are a lot of horror stories out there about failed upgrades to Vista.

I'm guessing you will have problems with your graphics card. Vista seems to be really picky and has a very poor track record for drivers

Microsoft says 1 GB minimum for Vista. Take that with a LARGE grain of salt

Vista uses far more resources than XP. You WILL see a decrease in overall performance. How big the performance hit will be will depend on how much of the "eye candy" you elect to use. If you don't use any, your machine will look just like it does now, just running slower.
1.5 gb is good. The higher, the better. You might need a better graphics card. PCI-E is the best choice to go if it's vista compatible.I want to upgrade to Vista home premium from windows xp pro, how much ram do i need and what is recommended?
dont do it...only Microsoft products will work correctly

..
minumum

4GB to make Vista Premium w/out flaws.

Video card: ATI 256 or 512mb
Personally, with the processor you have, and the amount of ram. I think you are fine for now. Test it out, if you feel you're lagging a bit, buy some memory from Crucial.com.
A bare minimum of 512mb. If you have 1.5gb, you got more than enough.
I dont know for certain but I've heard Vista is a massive hog, and will just sit there running, taking up 40% of your CPU thinking about nothing, possibly trying to calculate how much power it can waste.
why would you do such a HORRIBLE thing ?!

maybe a few years later , when the fist service pack for vista is out , until then enjoy XP cuz Vista is beta !
vista requires 1 gig of ram. less if you're willing to pass up on some features that arent very useful, or sometimes downright retarded.

it looks like you can definitely run vista, your graphics card might not be able to do the AERO interface though.
I would say that's excellent. I have the same specs but 1gb ram, amd athlon 64 and different g. card. Vista Ultimate works great on my PC and Home premium will definitely work great on your PC. The top 2 PC's to run vista on are: #1:http://www.apple.com/macpro/

Your system should run with a GB. The processor looks fine. I recomend 2-4 GB for the best results
You can find out here.

Totally recommend you to get vista.

I didn't go to websites to check out reviews of Vista,

I have vista Home premium myself!

It has 2 GB of ram, but it runs fine with 1 Gb.

you are ok.

It won't lag at all.

What lags will depend on what programs you run.

Oh yeah, if it uses 40% of the CPU for some period of time, that's a good thing. It shows that your OS is doing its job of maintenence.

Good luck.
I say don't do it a lot of websites and stuff don't work with vista yet i should know my dad is a computer technician for a doctor!! Hope this all helps!!
You have enough to run Vista, but I have heard a lot of negative replies about Vista. The more gadgets and software protection, the more you slow down and are practically at the speed of XP with a standard computer anyhow. Also, version 1 of anything usually has bugs in it.

From the looks of Vista, a MAC would be better suited and much faster, with less hassle, and no registry to be corrupted by viruses.
It should run fine, you only actually need 1024MB for it to run smoothly. I have an AMD Athlon 2.2GHz and 2GB Ram. It runs great, even with a crappy graphics card like yours...
ur good to go, but upgrade that graphics card. its too old
o you got enough ram if not you might want to upgrade to 2 or even 3 if u are running a 32bit the max is 3 and if u want a 64bit it can be like 4 or 5 or something so but i dont know about the processor.
1.5gb is plenty, its 512 minimum anyway
