And what breed do you have?Bully breed owners: do you go to dog parks?
I don't take my dogs to the dog park, they aren't bully breeds. But I will never set foot in a dog park again, nor will any dog I own.
They are unsafe places. My dog was attacked there at one. He wasn't joining in with the other dogs so much, except with a little shih tzu and corgi but he was just running and we were right there with him. Someone set loose a huge dog of 70lbs or so in the 20lb and under fence and it had a hey day.
Another time we were at one with our other dog and we saw a dog killed by another dog. It ripped its throat out.
From that day on we swore to never set foot in one of those places again.
(Our dog parks do not allow bully breeds but people bring them in anyways and usually they are the better behaved dogs at the park)
The dog that got its throat ripped out was a Pit/boxer mix and the dog that killed it was a Labrador. (it just went up to it and attacked, the lab went up to the Pit/boxer)
The owner had another dog it was a Lab/shepherd mix and it was just as mean.
I felt so bad for the family of the Pit mix, it was their first trip ever to the dog park. And they had a good dog, he had a good recall and obeyed so many commands. (this was the first park in the are to allow Bully breeds and it was a bully that was attacked)
I have a bull terrier and I took him there once and he did fine. He is well socialized, so its not something every bully breed owner should do. If you dog gets along well with others and is well socialized it should be fine. Good luck!
Edit: Huh thats funny, no one has a bull terrier here, but it seems like everyone have pit bulls. I have never even seen anyone in my area w/ a bull terrier. I own both bull terrier and pit bull, no I have never taken my pit to the dog park, but my friend takes his american bull dog all the time and he also does fine. Hope this helps!Bully breed owners: do you go to dog parks?
We used to have a Red Nose American Pit Bull Terrier, he passed when he was 16. He was VERY well trained, that is the only reason we took him. Because people are sooo scared of Bully breeds (which is retarted haha) if you have a super hyper, jumpy one idk if you should. It depends if it has any aggression problems. But now whenever we take our current dog to the dog park i always see Pits out there and nobody seems to care.
no i have an APBT and would love to take her to a park but not a dog park. Too many people are breed racist towards her and she is only 43 lbs. I dont take her there because people will yell at me for having a pit off a leash ect...well actually mine has never been outside without a leash on too dangerous. I have had people threaten me just while i walk her down the street. One lady told me to put my monster down before she hurts someone. And that was when she was only 26 lbs. She is still a baby only 11 months. And its not a very good idea to go to places like that. We just had a cop shoot a APBT in the head because he was playing with his owner unleashed and there was a complaint. I would never put my baby in danger of anything like that.Bully breed owners: do you go to dog parks?
I have gone to the dog park with three of my other dogs, but i havent gone to the dog park with my pit. he is the most social, and obedient dog i know. I realized its not a place i want to go, considering, there are just too many ubalanced, untrained dogs there, and thats not something i want to get involved with.
My pitbull mix Stone on the left, Mr Mustard in the middle ( a mutt of some sort), Dolce, ( chihuahua)
